Meet Your Neighbors: Betty & Midge

Treehouse Island Zipline Adventures in Silverlake, Washington, is paradise for those seeking adventure. On this 50-acre island, you’ll find a course with a total of six ziplines, ladders and rope bridges, and breathtaking views. At its highest point, the zipline reaches 75 feet in the air. Two of Revel Lacey’s resident thrill-seekers broke records during their visit, becoming the oldest participants to complete the zipline course.

Betty Whalen, 94, and Midge Stancil, 91, have always been outdoor enthusiasts, with Stancil always being a bit of a daredevil. “I’ll try anything once,” said Stancil, “and if it’s fun, I’ll try it more than once. Ziplining was on my bucket list and when our lifestyle director heard about it and offered the sign-up sheet, I jumped at the chance —literally.”

Once the group of participating residents arrived at the course, they knew they were ready for the challenge ahead. “Climbing up the trees was difficult for our age, but we really loved the trip even though it was so tiring,” said Whalen. “We had such great encouragement from the directors through the whole course. Once you got up there, you had to finish.”

The trip to this ziplining course is an example of one of many experiences Revel residents can choose to participate in as part of our Revel Living lifestyle program. Whether you are interested in a book club, woodworking, yoga, learning a new language, exploring botanical gardens or even teaching a class, Revel Living offer limitless opportunities to learn and grow.. “Our lifestyle directors do a great job of listening and responding to what people want to do. If you could see our activity program, there is something every single day,” said Stancil.

Betty Whalen and Midge Stancil truly enjoy being residents at the Revel Lacey community. Whalen has lived there for a little over a year and Stancil was one of the very first to move in when the community opened its doors in 2018.

Both have become very active members of the community, sharing their passion for activity and adventure with their fellow residents. These ladies aren’t slowing down any time soon, either. Whalen is looking forward to a trip back to her home state of Montana, and Stancil just returned from a month-long trip to Australia and New Zealand.
